Full Description

Embark on an unforgettable cross-country expedition that bridges the tropical paradise of Bali with the cultural capital of Yogyakarta. This 3-Day, 2-Night overland adventure is perfectly paced for travelers looking to seamlessly transit across Java while experiencing the island's most famous and awe-inspiring active volcanoes: Mount Ijen and Mount Bromo.

Your journey begins with a morning pickup from your accommodation in Bali, covering main hubs like Denpasar, Sanur, Ubud, or Kuta. Sit back and relax in a comfortable, air-conditioned car as we drive west to Gilimanuk harbor. After a scenic ferry crossing over the Bali Strait into East Java, we will arrive in the Banyuwangi area. Here, you will check into your local accommodation to rest and prepare for the midnight adventure ahead, as Mount Ijen sits just a short drive from the port.

Waking up around midnight, you will head to the base of Mount Ijen to begin your starlit night trek. Hiking up the volcano, you will witness the highly rare Ijen Blue Fire—ignited sulfuric gas burning brilliantly in the dark. As dawn breaks, you will be rewarded with sweeping views of the world's largest highly acidic crater lake, a breathtaking turquoise body of water surrounded by yellow sulfur rocks and local miners at work. After descending the volcano and catching your breath, you will embark on a scenic overland drive westward to the Mount Bromo area, where you will check into your next accommodation to sleep and recharge.

Waking up before dawn the next morning, the final leg of your adventure kicks off with the iconic Mount Bromo sunrise. Traveling by rugged 4WD Jeep, you will navigate up to a high-altitude viewpoint just in time to watch the sun rise over the sweeping Tengger Caldera. Afterward, your Jeep will descend into the vast Sea of Sand, allowing you to cross the ash-covered landscape and climb the steps directly to the rim of Bromo's active crater. Once the morning's exploration wraps up, the Kymawari Alam Journey team will handle your onward transfer, driving you comfortably out of the mountains and completing your epic expedition with a drop-off at your designated hotel or station in Yogyakarta.
